Brent Faiyaz is officially back! The Columbia, Maryland, artist has released his sophomore
album, Wasteland, July 8th.
Faiyaz released his most recent EP, F**K the World, in 2020. Last year, he collaborated with
Baby Keem on a new version of “Lost Souls” and Meek Mill on the Expensive Pain track, “Halo."
The R&B singer and producer’s new LP is produced by Jonathan “Freeze” Wells and includes contributions from Alicia Keys, Raphael Saadiq, and Tre’ Amani.
The 19-track LP includes the previous tracks such as “Dead Man Walking,” (which went certified gold in June 2021) “Gravity” featuring Tyler the Creator, “Wasting Time” featuring Drake and The Neptunes. Faiyaz has also shared the album’s most recent single, “Price of Fame.”
On Wasteland, Faiyaz emphasizes the themes of wealth and poverty, along with how fame
affects him. “It was less of an album process and more of a life process. I made a collection of songs and tied a story line together once I saw that they all kind of shared a similar theme,” Faiyaz explained in a Vogue interview. “I didn’t really realize I was working on an album until I was maybe a little over halfway through. Then I realized, this is a body of work.”
As of right now, “Wasting Time” has more than 57.5 million streams on Spotify. The album’s
third early single, “Mercedes,” has been played over 25.9 million times on the same music
platform.
