[Entertainment News] Update: New York Rapper Lil Tjay Shot and Undergoing Surgery

New York rapper, Lil Tjay, was shot multiple times in Edgewater, New Jersey, early Wednesday morning.


Lil Tjay (whose real name is Tione Jayden Merritt) underwent emergency surgery, according to law enforcement sources.


Two 22-year-olds were shot at The Promenade shopping center at around 12:05 a.m. One

victim was found with multiple gunshot wounds, outside a Chipotle. Another was found at a

nearby Exxon station on River Road with a single gunshot wound. Prosecutors said one victim was taken to the hospital in critical condition but is now stable and the other was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries and is in "good" condition, said the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office.


Edgewater police and the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office were at the shopping center after 7 a.m. Wednesday, inspecting a red Dodge Durango with a bullet hole in the driver's window.

Police were also seen inspecting a blood-stained towel. The Prosecutor's Office said the

shooting did "not appear to be a random act."


Lil Tjay has 7 million followers on Instagram and has released two studio albums that made it

into the top 5 on the Billboard 200. His 2021 song with singer 6lack "Calling My Name" which debuted at number three on the Billboard Hot 100.


On Tuesday night, Tjay posted an Instagram story which said "Just because you've been

around a person doesn't make you entitled to the fruits of that persons labor. Envy Is At An All Time High Be Safe Otchea."
